Raised on a family farm in Concordia, Missouri, his love for cooking started early in life when, his mom would distract him from wanting to go to work with dad on the farm by teaching him to bake cookies. By the age of 5 he was making his own breakfast frying eggs. (Kids, don't try this at home!)

Randy's commitment to excellence led him to become a pivotal member of the Missouri Pork Producers Association. It was during this time that he embarked on his first major catering venture, serving 700 hungry patrons at a John Deere event in Higginsville. This milestone was just the beginning of what was to come.
Sharpens his skills
Teaming up with his brother-in-law, who shared his enthusiasm for BBQ, Randy took his skills to the next level. A judging class at the renowned American Royal competition solidified his dedication to the craft. In 2001, he made his debut in the world of BBQ contests in Alma, Missouri, and shortly thereafter, he tested his mettle at a KCBS contest in Marshall, Missouri. Although his first steps might not have been perfect, Randy's commitment to growth and improvement was evident.
Practice and patience pays off with a WIN at the American Royal
Over the next decade, he immersed himself in the world of BBQ, relentlessly learning, attending classes, competing, and drawing inspiration from fellow BBQ enthusiasts. In 2009, his unwavering dedication bore fruit as he emerged victorious at the prestigious American Royal Invitational.
Plowboys Opens in Marshall, MO
In 2013, a new chapter unfolded as Randy purchased the iconic BBQ Pit Stop building in Marshall, Missouri. Starting out as a drive-through only establishment with a few picnic benches, Plowboys faced the challenges of a harsh winter and tough times for the restaurant industry. Yet, Randy's resilience shone through. Armed with menus and business cards, he ventured out to local businesses, offering his catering services for events, lunches, and meetings.
Conagra signs on and business grows
The Congra plant in Marshall, Missouri, believed in Randy's talent and gave him a shot at their business. With each success, Plowboys gained momentum. Word spread of the exceptional BBQ served at the unassuming drive-through spot, and soon enough, lines of cars wrapped around the street.

Moving on up
In 2020, Plowboys BBQ embarked on a new chapter, relocating to a larger space down the street. This new location boasts a spacious dining room and a small banquet room, creating a welcoming atmosphere for in-house dining and private events.
Plowboys celebrates a decade
In July 2023, we celebrated a decade of Plowboys BBQ with a grand party, a testament to the incredible journey that brought us here. Friends, family, and the soulful tunes of the local favorite band, the Nace Brothers, filled the air as we honored a decade of delectable BBQ and heartwarming memories.
